Pin of the Day – #11

This has been a bad week. Not like the traumatic-I’m-never-getting-out-of-bed-again kind of bad, but the nothing-seems-to-go-right kind of bad. My internet refused to work on Monday. I didn’t wake up from my alarm and was late for an important meeting on Tuesday. I hit a concrete structure with my car on Wednesday (okay, so that one was a bit traumatic for my poor car, Pearl).

Anyway, this morning I woke up and was a bit nervous as to what Thursday would bring. I got to work a bit early and didn’t hit anything on my way in — it was a win so far.

Then I spilled my soy hot chocolate on my pants. UGH

After cleaning up with my trusty Tide To-Go, I took five minutes to chill and look at Pinterest. I saw the quote below and thought, “That’s totally what I needed to do today!” Except I didn’t like the typography, so I thought I’d recreate it, post-it style.

When things aren’t working out the way you want them to, be it technology problems, work problems, friend/family problems, you just have to tackle the problem another way.

I’m not saying give up on your problems entirely and go the way of moping on the couch with cake. Although, now that I think about it, it is a rather appealing option. I’m just saying that your problems can always be worked out. If not one way, try another. If not at first, they will soon. And always ask for help if you think you can’t deal. People are always willing to help and are way more helpful than we give them credit for. Unless it’s the guy I talked to on Monday who tried to fix my internet; he wasn’t helpful at all.

Keep on trying and when nothing goes right, go left.

Until next time,

Children learn them from what they see.

However, the scary thing is that children see everything. They pick up on even the littlest details that occur in life.

In this video, the young Italian boys meet a pretty and innocent looking girl, who all of them seem to – in the words of a child- “like-like.”

Being told to do things to her like make a funny face at her or caress her, the boys complete the actions with little hesitation. But then they are asked to slap her.

Their reactions are exactly what you’d hope for: each one of them refuses to even touch her and their explanations as to why they wouldn’t are pretty spot on.

Children aren’t born with violent tendencies, they are learned. We need to be teaching them that violence against anyone – man or woman – is wrong and should not be tolerated. These little guys send a strong message that if they can understand that violence is wrong, why can’t grown men?

Until next time,

It’s been my first week of pins and I’m ready to end it with a cocktail!

In honor of never being one to skip out on a Margarita Monday, I’m pinning a recipe for a Champagne Margarita I’ve found from Mantitlement. And be sure to check out his blog for more foodie how-to’s. This recipe should make about 4 drinks. Or it can make 1 really big drink if your Monday was just short of fan-freaking-tastic.

Be sure to try it out for your New Year’s celebration or for your IMadeItThroughMonday celebration. Either way, cheers!

Ingredients
  1. 4 T. fresh key lime or lime juice
  2. 2 oz. tequila
  3. 2 oz. pineapple juice
  4. 2 oz. triple sec
  5. 1 (750 ml) bottle of champagne
  6. lime wedges for garnish
  7. enough salt or sugar for rimming the glasses

Instructions

  1. Dip the rim of your glass into a small dish of water and then into small dish of sugar or salt.
  2. Mix all of your ingredients into a pitcher for the base.
  3. Add 1.5 oz. of the margarita mixture to each glass.
  4. Top with champagne
  5. Add fresh lime to make it look extra fancy. 🙂

Until next time,

C. Brooks

New rule: there are none.

When it comes to what you wear, you shouldn’t let anyone tell you what to wear and how. Can you take suggestions on what works for others? Sure! Fashion blogs, magazines and Pinterest are great places to get ideas, but always feel that you should make them your own.

That’s the great thing about being a twenty-something: you get to wear whatever you feel like wearing. I wear what I feel. Even when Anna Wintour has said she’d never wear head to toe black, I kind of like to do it every once in a while because I feel like a badass when I do.

What I’m saying is that fashion is definitely a case of, “to each his (or her!) own.” Everyone’s got their personal style and it’s not anyone’s business to say if it’s in fashion or not. Ignore the rules and if you like it, wear it.

This Saturday, do something that makes you happy. Anything: cook your favorite meal, stay in your pjs all day, have a dance party in your living room. It doesn’t matter what it is. Just make sure to do something that makes you smile all over your face.

Until next time,

Saw this and it became one ofGreat to Start my favorite quotes. It’s important to keep moving forward and try everything you think is worth while to bring fun and great things into your life.

Starting this blog was something I thought I’d never do, but I’ve realized it’s given me the opportunity to start trying new things and share my experiences with others so that they can find joy in them too.

We all have so many things to learn in life and we all need to start somewhere.

Thankful

Today’s the day I start Pinterest as an official blogger on Babbling [C.] Brooks!

I thought I’d start with a quote that is all too true, yet is often forgotten. I believe that happiness starts at the most simple and commonplace things in life, one of which is being thankful for the life you have and have made.

Thankfulness is an important thing to have during the holiday season with family and friends, but remember to be thankful for the little things all year-round too. There’s always something.
